Buffalo Trace racks up awards in San Francisco!

Whiskeys win top honors

Two whiskeys from Buffalo Trace Distillery won top honors in the 2011 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and 14 others from the distillery received medals.
The Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey was named both best in show and best rye, and the George T. Stagg Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was named best bourbon.
Both also received double-goal medals in the competition earlier this month.
“This competition had a record number of entries this year, so to walk away with this many awards is quite remarkable,” said Harlen Wheatley, master distiller at Buffalo Trace.
“Winning the medals alone is quite an honor, but then to also win three of the top awards, best in show whiskey, best rye and best bourbon is really the icing on the cake.”
Other medals won by Buffalo Trace whiskeys include:
nDouble gold: Sazerac 18 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
nGold: Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Eagle Rare 17 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey and William Larue Weller Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
nSilver: Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Eagle Rare Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon, Charter 101 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year Old Bourbon Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
